Who are we?

We are people. We like art. We use GIMP. That is the most important here :) What is GIMP? It is GNU Image Manipulation Program - exactly what the name says ;) (for more info you'd better read this article written by ~Kittenpants )
We may hate it, or we may love it. It depends on the personal opinion. But whatever, we do wonderfull pictures with it. If you are a newcommer just go and walk through the "Favoured Deviation" section from the front page :) If you are an old dog.. you know all the contest, and you have saw what the other clubmates do.

So are we the best? :) Yep :headbang: If you are a newcommer you'd better join before we take over the world ;) Joke.

Quote of the day:
From ~3moX
i have just found an amazing software: INKSCAPE
it's a perfect companion for GIMP since it's VECTOR BASED
so, all the things impossible or very hard to obtain with GIMP
can be easily made with INK and viceversa.
and most of all, INK images are also GIMP compatible.
same style and interface of GIMP. a must have..

Well, at home I use Adobe Illustrator, Comic Life Deluxe, ArtRage 2.2 (paid version), Quark Xpress, ImageWell and GIMPshop primarily, and I usually do so with my Wacom pen and tablet.

At work I also use Adobe Photoshop CS3 and the rest of the creative suite but I don't really miss them at home.

Heh, i wrote that awhile ago, and while i haven't changed my opinion, i'm not really in the mood to argue about it anymore; l'll just mention that you can download one-month trial versions of both photoshop and painter, and a trial version of the most recent version of opencanvas; there's also opencanvas 1.something, which is free, artrage, paintchat and oekaki; you also get photoshop elements or painter essentials along with a wacom, which, while stripped-down versions of the original programs, are still alot more versatile than gimp. Nothing wrong with using gimp of course, but it'd be great if more people used it because they genuinely love the software, instead of either buying into the OPEN-SOURCE bullshit, or letting themselves being limited by an inferior tool, simply because they don't know of anything better. Blah, i said i wasn't in the mood to argue, but i still wrote a paragraph.

You do realize that not everyone could afford to invest in software such as Photoshop? Others of us use a variety of software that does include Gimp in the work flow, ant there's nothing wrong with that. Ultimately the quality of the artist is more significant than the tools... although good tools make life easier.

I started out on GIMP, and then graduated to photoshop. I don't really miss gimp, because of its multiple windows and lack of ability to batch process RAWs, but it sure can make a good script-fu border.

thats just one persons opinion. I enjoy using GIMP! so do a lot of other people. Just because you say its difficult to use doesnt make it true. -_-

You'd make alot better art if you used a program that isn't living hell to use. Doing art in gimp is like cutting off the tips of your fingers with a rusty saw and painting with your own blood on sandpaper! I suppose it's okay for photomanip, though.
